a start to our legacy: allusion magazine

Hello! Thanks so much for tuning in to our launch. Welcome to Allusion Magazine: the newest foreground for rising and established filmmakers as well as visual media entertainment leaders of the industry. We are currently based in and operate in Los Angeles, California at Loyola Marymount University.

Allusion Magazine was born from the concept that while the industry is a competitive environment, choosing collaboration and fostering community brings multiple benefits to all parties career-wise and socially. For example, every year, college graduates and MFA/ PhD graduates leave with a degree in their hands. However, the complex part is that no one can really make a film by themselves. If you’re a multi-hyphenate, you technically could. Though, for most, it would be highly difficult. Let’s say you’re able to direct, act, film, and produce your own short film but how do you move forward? You’ll not only need other collaborators along the way but a space to market yourself among the community. A space for your finished work to be actually SEEN by potential collaborators and industry leaders. A place where people who felt like they didn’t have a voice on social media have a voice through us. That’s where we come in.

Allusion Magazine is not a production company. Instead, we are producing a vibrant magazine that creates a comfortable sense of community and allows it’s members to exercise and learn a unique variety of skills: journalism, production, writing, photography, on-set positions, and more. It’s about bridging the gap between filmmakers who work several different kinds of on-set positions. We also want to bridge the gap between filmmakers and other visual artists who are not based in the film industry for perspective. The industry and trends are ever-changing and film world intersects fashion, music, culture, writing, technology, and more. Our network will consist of varying students, faculty members, industry leaders, etc. Ultimately, we are a brand that provides marketing, communications, social media support, and community services regardless of your background, education, how many awards you’ve received, etc. We are embracing who we are as creators; the core of the person first, then the work they make behind them.

Our brand’s values include unfiltered authenticity, unique marketing + design, and editorial elevation. We believe that creators shouldn’t be turned away from the chance to be featured just because they didn’t go to film school or didn’t go to a reputable film school. Real talent shouldn’t be left behind just because they haven’t won awards or haven’t worked at high-level studio jobs. To us, storytellers are storytellers regardless of cultural differences.

Thank you for being a part of our legacy and thank you for believing in us. It’s time to believe in yourselves and do what you creatively set out to do.
